Braces for Class III Maloclusion (Underbite) – X-rays Before & After

I had braces starting from June 2009 to prepare my teeth for corrective jaw surgery to correct my underbite.

One of the side effects of getting braces is that my underbite was going to get worse over time because the orthodontist has to push the lower teeth forward to prepare it for its final position when the lower jaw is set back during the corrective jaw surgery.

As you can see from the X-rays above, my lower teeth had moved slightly more in front of the the upper teeth by March 2010. Previously, my upper and lower teeth met each other perfectly. In a normal bite, the upper teeth should be in front of the lower teeth.

I removed 2 upper wisdom teeth before I had my braces done in June 2009. Personally, I can’t tell much from the front view of my teeth in the X-rays above because the … Read more…

Braces for Jaw Surgery in Thailand

I went to the BIDC to get my braces done. I remember I started in June 2009 after I removed 2 of my upper wisdom teeth 1 month or so before my braces were installed.

I went to the BIDC for about 6 times from June 2009 to December 2009. My first 2 visits cost me 15000 THB each and 2000 THB for each visit thereafter. I did not need to pay the full amount because I left Thailand in January 2010 and resumed my orthodontic treatment in Singapore in April 2010.

Here are some of the photos I took of my teeth during the time I received orthodontic treatment in Thailand.

Getting No Support From Family for Jaw Surgery

When I made the decision to correct my jaws, I did not have a single person in my family who supported the idea. In fact, my parents and elder sister were very against the idea. Over time, they realised I was going to do it with or without their blessing so their negative remarks became less frequent.

My mother was the most negative and vocal about it. She would anger me by telling people that I am crazy for wanting to go for surgery. Imagine bumping into a neighbour or sharing a meal with a family friend and having your mother tell them that. It drove me up the wall!

She did that for heaven knows what reason and I lost my temper quite a few times in front of her and her friends. She was clearly trying to manipulate me with guilt and shame. It took a lot of … Read more…

1 Day Before My Double Jaw Surgery!

Hello everyone!

This is my first post on my blog. My web site does not have a lot of content at the moment but I will be adding more content after my jaw surgery tomorrow.

I have been preparing for my surgery for over a year. I had braces done last May and I am finally ready to go under the knife to fix my misaligned upper and lower jaws once and for all!

What’s Wrong with My Jaws?

Here’s a Youtube video I created to summarise all the unbalanced facial features that were caused by my misaligned jaws.

1. Protruding lower jaw – The cause of my underbite (Class III malloclusion). The lower teeth are in front of the upper teeth, which is abnormal because a normal bite has the upper teeth in front of the lower teeth.

2. Underdeveloped upper jaw – The cause of my gummy smile … Read more…
